Cardona not devastated at all by splitting with Leo Augsburger and happy to play with Tello

In a sport where pair reshuffles are increasingly common, the separation of Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger still managed to surprise fans and insiders alike. The duo, both born in 2004, had formed one of the most promising partnerships on the Premier Padel circuit. Their synergy on the court was undeniable, and they quickly rose to prominence by defeating the top three ranked pairs—an achievement that few could have predicted at the start of the season.

Cardona’s Calm Reaction

The end of their partnership came abruptly in Malaga, just before the San Sebastian PPL event. Cardona shared his thoughts in an interview with Adri Illescas for ‘La Casa del Pádel’, revealing that Augsburger informed him of the decision during a car ride. “He told me he was going to play with Di Nenno when we were in the car to San Sebastian to play in the PPL. I don’t know if it took me by surprise or not, but I didn’t give it much importance either,” Cardona said. His focus remains on personal performance and growth, emphasizing that his priority is to play well so his teammate can do the same.

This is what he said:  “He told me he was going to play with Di Nenno when we were in the car to San Sebastian to play in the PPL. I don’t know if it took me by surprise or not, but I didn’t give it much importance either . I’ve always focused on myself, I focus on playing well myself so that my teammate can play well and get the results.”

Mutual Respect Beyond the Court

Despite the sudden change, Cardona expressed no bitterness. Instead, he highlighted the strong interpersonal bond he shared with Augsburger. “Leo has always been honest with me, and we’ve talked things over face to face. I’m delighted with his team, just as I think he is with mine. The same goes for our families. The relationship we show is the one we have, and that’s nice, too.” This mature outlook reflects a deeper understanding of the sport’s dynamics and the importance of maintaining respect and camaraderie.

Looking Ahead with Tello

Cardona is already moving forward, preparing for the Tarragona P1 event where he will team up with Juan Tello. Interestingly, both players were previously connected through their coach, Seba Nerone, which could ease the transition and foster a strong partnership. With his calm demeanor and focus on performance, Cardona seems well-equipped to navigate this new chapter in his career.
