Carlos Alcaraz, fresh from his defeat at the Miami Masters 1000 against Sebastian Korda, joked about padel during his stay in the city. “Sinner and I against Coello and Tapia in padel? We would win, without a doubt”, he said with a smile, half in jest but not entirely.
Meeting the padel stars
Welcomed by FIP President Luigi Carraro, Premier Padel CEO David Serrahima and legend Fernando Belasteguin, director of the Miami P1, Alcaraz attended the event at the Convention Center for the second consecutive year. He greeted Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello, then Mike Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk, before sitting in the VIP front row next to Carraro to watch the matches. “I’ve also been getting into padel recently”, said the world No. 1 in tennis. Carraro replied jokingly: “And you’ll beat everyone”.
The toughest opponents
Asked which tennis player would be the hardest to face in padel, Alcaraz pointed to those with great touch. “Definitely someone with good touch, for example Dimitrov. But also Zverev, perhaps also because of his height and his smashes”, he explained.
Enjoying padel
Alcaraz confirmed he finds padel fun and engaging. He first watched it live a year ago in Miami and wanted to return for another experience, showing his enthusiasm for trying his hand with a padel racket as well.
