The Newgiza event, scheduled between April 13 and 18, will feature significant adjustments, particularly in the men’s draw.
Absence of Coello and Tapia
The most striking change is the absence of Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, who will not participate. This leaves Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto, already registered, as the number one seeds in the tournament.
Final appearance for Alonso and Tello
Edu Alonso and Juan Tello, seeded eighth, will play their last tournament together in Newgiza. Tello is expected to join Maxi Arce afterward, a partnership already listed for Brussels. Meanwhile, Javi Barahona will team up with Gonzalo G. Alfonso, and José Jiménez will partner with Javier García.
New pairings across the draw
Veteran Sanyo Gutiérrez will join forces with Víctor Ruiz, while Íñigo Jofre will partner with David Gala, one of the most promising young players on the circuit. José Antonio Gª Diestro will play alongside Maxi Sánchez Blasco, and Álvaro Cepero has been selected to join Pablo Gª Rodrigo, completing the men’s main draw.
Stability in the women’s section
In contrast, the women’s draw remains unchanged. The number one seeds, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, will compete, and the top 19 pairs are confirmed, with one wild card to be added. Unless unexpected injuries occur, all registered players will take part.
The only uncertainty lies in the future partners of Patty Llaguno and Martina Fassio, who recently announced their separation, and in the new pairing of Raquel Eugenio with Lucía Sainz.
The Newgiza tournament promises to be a turning point, with reshuffled partnerships in the men’s section and stability in the women’s draw, setting the stage for an intriguing week of competition.
