Padel confirmed as medal sport at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games

Padel has been officially confirmed as a medal sport at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, taking place from 19 September to 4 October 2026. This recognition marks a major step in the sport’s international expansion and growing influence.

“This is a significant moment for our sport,” said Luigi Carraro, President of the International Padel Federation (FIP). “The Asian Games represent one of the most important multi-sport events in the world, and the confirmation of Padel as a medal sport reflects both the rapid development of the sport across Asia and its growing global impact.”

Agreement and responsibilities

The confirmation comes after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and the International Padel Federation. Under this framework, the FIP will lead the planning and delivery of the padel competition, working closely with the local organizing committee and under the governance of the OCA.

Expansion across Asia

Padel has experienced rapid growth in Asia, with new facilities, national federations, and rising participation levels. Globally, the sport is played by millions and is widely regarded as one of the fastest-growing racquet sports, combining accessibility with a strong social component.

The stage at Aichi-Nagoya

The 2026 Asian Games will gather thousands of athletes from across the continent. For padel, this inclusion provides not only a competitive platform but also an opportunity to strengthen its presence in Asia and further establish itself within the global sporting landscape.
