Lebrón furious after being upset in Newgiza : “We forgot how to play padel”

At the Newgiza center court, one of the rare surprises of the professional padel circuit unfolded as Enzo Jensen and Luis Hernandez, coming from the qualifying rounds, defeated the top-3 pair of Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger. The match ended with a stunning 6-0 score in the final set, leaving the favorites without answers.

Lebrón’s frustration during the match

Trailing 5-0 in the decisive set, Lebrón spoke with his coach, Cristian Silingo, in an attempt to explain the situation. “It’s not impossible, but it is difficult. It seems like we’ve forgotten how to play padel; we need to be self-critical,” he said. Silingo admitted he did not understand what Lebrón meant, to which the player from Cádiz replied: “We just need to play normally, it’s not a big deal.” Augsburger, meanwhile, remained silent and returned to the court as quickly as possible.

Work ahead for the pair

The defeat adds to a string of disappointing results for Lebrón and Augsburger, who continue to generate excitement but have yet to deliver consistent performances. The team now faces the challenge of fine-tuning their game and regaining confidence. The good news for them is that padel offers another opportunity soon, with the Brussels P2 tournament scheduled for next week, giving the pair a chance to bounce back and prove their resilience.
